Flying through the First Quarter!

Today marked the end of our first quarter in third grade! Can you believe how fast that went?! Report cards will be emailed next Thursday, October 13th. We're so impressed with the growth we're seeing from all of our students, friendships that are being made, and leaders that are blossoming. We are incredibly lucky to have such a sweet and hard-working group of third graders this year!

Students in third grade math worked so hard on their Unit 2 test this week. Next week, we'll dive into our measurement unit. During this unit, students will practice reading rulers to the nearest inch, 1/2 inch,  quarter inch, and centimeter, measuring various objects, and exploring area and perimeter.

Writing was very eventful this week! Students learned the importance of editing as they go instead of waiting until they're finished with their piece to proofread. Ask your child what they should look for as they're editing their paper. We ended the week by giving the students their first writing prompt. Students wrote a seed story of their choice and were encouraged to apply everything we've learned this quarter in writing. We're excited to see the progress they've made since the beginning of the year!

We wrapped up our rocks and minerals unit in science. This was such a fun unit for the kids!  Students used their information from all the field tests they performed for each mineral along with identification cards to identify the name of the minerals they explored during the unit. We'll begin our immigration unit in social studies next week.

In reading, we practiced comparing and contrasting details from similar texts. Students worked together and independently to find details that were the same and different from two articles on the same topic. This is a tricky third grade skill that we will continue to work on throughout the year. Stay tuned for our first Book Tasting that the students will participate in next week!

We are looking forward to our short week next week leading up to Fall Break!
